Finding Facts of Good and Bad Cholesterol

Both Good and bad cholesterol are necessary in our body. Body responds if good cholesterol rises or falls from the standard level. On the other hand, change in bad cholesterol also affects our body. It is therefore very important to monitor the ratio between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. The ratio along with other associated factors can clearly indicate the cardiac health condition of any person. Today, parallel to cardiac problems, respiratory problems are also causing people falling ill in various ways. Asthma, lung infection, chest infection, virus attack in alveoli, lung cancer, arrhythmia, and some other health hazards cause serious respiratory troubles among patients.

There are two kinds of lipoproteins that can carry cholesterol to and from cells. They are known as high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, along with one-fifth of your triglyceride level, comprises of your total cholesterol count. This can be examined with the help of a blood test. Cholesterol is not possible to dissolve in human blood. It has to be transported through your bloodstream by carriers known as lipoproteins. As they are made of proteins and lipid, their name have been kept so.

What is Good Cholesterol?
HDL cholesterol is considered “good” cholesterol because it helps remove LDL cholesterol from the arteries. Experts believe HDL acts as a scavenger, carrying LDL cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it is broken down and passed from the body. One-fourth to one-third of blood cholesterol is carried by HDL. A healthy level of HDL cholesterol may also protect against heart attack and stroke, while low levels of HDL cholesterol have been shown to increase the risk of heart disease.

What is Bad Cholesterol?
LDL cholesterol is known as the bad cholesterol as it gives birth to plaque which is a hard and thick deposit clogging arteries and making them less stretchy. This condition is considered to be atherosclerosis. Formation of a clot blocks a narrowed artery resulting into cardiac arrest or stroke. Another condition known as peripheral artery disease can grow when collection of plaque makes an artery narrow by providing blood supply to the legs.

What to Know about Triglycerides?
Triglyceride is a different kind of fat. They are in use to keep excess energy in store from your diet. High triglyceride levels in the blood are linked with atherosclerosis. High level of triglycerides is possible to cause by obesity, overweight, physical inactivity, smoking tobacco, consumption of excess alcohol and a diet which is very rich in carbohydrates. Primary disease or any genetic disorder is sometimes the reason of high triglycerides. Men, women, and even children with high triglycerides mostly have a total cholesterol level of high degree. This includes a low level of HDL cholesterol and a high level of LDL cholesterol. There are many people suffering from diabetes or heart disease and having high level of triglyceride at the same time. Maintaining the balanced relationship between good and bad cholesterol is what causes a good heart health.
